Mission Statement: More Fishing, More Fun, More Fish, More Challenge, More You.
Over a million Kiwis go fishing annually. Whether it's children learning to fish from wharves and beaches, or family outings to catch and enjoy a feed of fish through to those who catch game fish, fishing is an integral part of New Zealand’s heritage, culture and outdoor recreation.
New Zealand Sport Fishing (NZSF) was originally established in 1957 and then named the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council. Its representation has expanded since then with its member clubs participating in all aspects of fishing. NZSF is recognised by SPARC as the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) representing marine fishing.
NZSF conducts education programs, research projects, participates in fisheries management, runs competitions and is a keeper of New Zealand’s Fishing Records in conjunction with the New Zealand Angling and Casting Association. It supports and now represents the interests of 56 Clubs and 32,000 members nationwide. Unofficially, it represents all Kiwis aspirations for their ability to go fishing and catch a feed of fish.
NZSF promotes and supports Kiwi’s going fishing, along with responsible and sustainable management of our marine environment, to ensure future generations of Kiwi’s are able to enjoy the unique opportunities that New Zealand’s marine environment offers.
